This years never ending quarantine has lead to artists expressing themselves in creative ways that we never thought we’d see before. From musicians doing live music festivals on Zoom, home video recordings with a charming low quality feel that adds something their sound and online collaborations we never thought we’d see happen, it’s been a rather fascinating time in that respect. However seeing a musician sample the Windows XP sound as well as featuring an array of throwbacks through the lyricisms is something I never thought I’d see, but damn am I happy that ROMderful has done it because it’s an absolute bop that’s best described as someone working in IT who wanted to write a slow jam for their partner.

Message Me (Windows XP Song) is a genius piece with charmingly witty lyrics like “I call you XP cause you’re xtra precious,” being peppered throughout the track whilst the classic Windows XP opening theme plays as a guitar plays the nostalgia inducing melody over it. The whole is just pure creative fun, it’s an exercise in the jubilance and preposterous imagination that many artists possess that allows them to do such unexpectedly amazing things such as this. Definitely having this as the opening theme for all my future electronics.
