Considering this track starts of with a count in we kind of had to love it didn’t we? Jokes aside Rook Monroe has hit it out of the park and into the stratosphere yet again with his nostalgia inducing sound that takes the best parts of the doo-wop sound of the 40’s and the psychedelia wonder of the 60’s with a contemporary edge that is utterly hypnotic and hard not to love. His previous release Honey demonstrated all of this effortlessly with honey drizzled harmonies, mesmerising melodies and a feel good atmosphere that could put a smile on your face almost instantly and now today we have the title track of his EP Californialand.

The track sees Monroe at an intersection of confidence and confusion as he realises he must leave somewhere in the past and head for a destination that he has yet to define himself. The organic production of lushly sun kissed guitar riffs and balmy drum beats allows for a jubilant atmosphere to build as his liquid gold vocal gently floats over it all as the millennial hooks of ‘la la la’s’ sneaks its way so deep into your head the you’ll require an excavation crew to get it out. It’s a wondrous affair that continues to demonstrate Rook Monroe’s ability to craft mesmerising tracks that leave us in a state of pure bliss.
