Right now the Irish music scene is going through a golden period with countless fresh and exciting artists emerging from the country, demonstrating their talents in such innovative ways that continue to leave people in awe and Gemma Dunleavy is living, breathing proof of this. The Norther Inner City Dubliner has made her presence well know in 2019 when she dropped her debut single but it was in 2020 with the release of her debut EP, where she explored her own community on Dublin’s Sheriff Street, that Dunleavy became a force to be reckoned with.

The title track of the EP Up De Flats is such a joyous number because you can feel love for her community radiating through her smile inducing vocal, with the Irish twinge of her accent coming through, and expressive lyrics that make you want to be apart of Sheriff Street. Her unique production adds a special flair to the piece too with the 90’s Garage sound being complimented by the subtle harp melodies in a euphonic swirl that gives me a serotonin boost every time. Combine all that with the music video and you’ve got something rather special from this Irish star in the making.
