Cinematic master Francis Ford Coppola is back with another one!
One thing that really caught our attention with the poster is the fact that it clearly says A FABLE – which immediately tells us this is a movie that will stretch our imaginations, while ultimately giving us a moral to the story. We’re also really happy to see Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel and Laurence Fishburne are part of the cast.
Check out the trailer below:
MEGALOPOLIS is a Roman Epic set in an imagined Modern America. The City of New Rome must change, causing conflict between Cesar Catilina (Adam Driver), a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian, idealistic future, and his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito), who remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests, and partisan warfare. Torn between them is socialite Julia Cicero (Nathalie Emmanuel), the mayor’s daughter, whose love for Cesar has divided her loyalties, forcing her to discover what she truly believes humanity deserves.
The film stars Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Kathryn Hunter and Dustin Hoffman
Are you excited for this one? MEGALOPOLIS arrives in theaters and IMAX September 27.
1. Francis Ford Coppola spent mega bucks making MEGALOPOLIS
Source:Lionsgate
According to Business Insider reports, Francis Ford Coppola has been trying to get Megalopolis made since the 1980’s and eventually was moved to finance the $120 million movie on his own. It is believed that Coppola may have used some of the estimated earnings (between $500 million and $1 billion) he received from the sale of his family’s Sonoma vineyards.
2. Nathalie Emmanuel as Julia Cicero

We’re always happy to see our girl Nathalie Emmanuel winning so we couldn’t be more thrilled that she’s the leading lady of Megalopolis.
3. Adam Driver as Cesar Castilina

We’re expecting Adam Driver to bring his legendary acting intensity to Megalopolis . He’s earned a reputation for playing strong characters and we’re hoping Cesar will be one to remember.
4. Is MEGALOPOLIS A Love Story?
Source:Lionsgate
We noticed the movie synopsis mentions Nathalie Emmanuel’s Julia being torn between her loyalty to her dad and her love for Cesar. We’re dying to see what kind of chemistry there might be and if this is one of those movies that gets hot and heavy or if it’s more of a tease.
5. Grace Vanderwaal as Vesta Sweetwater

Musical prodigy and former child star Grace Vanderwaal is Vesta Sweetwater in Francis Ford Coppola’s MEGALOPOLIS. At 20-years-old she’s officially all grown up — and we’re eager to learn about her role in the drama.
6. Shia Labeouf as Clodio Pulcher

Shia Labeouf plays Clodio Pulcher in MEGALOPOLIS. And while we don’t know much about the role, we thought it was worth noting that Coppola reportedly said he intentionally cast controversial actors. In addition to Labeouf, Jon Voight was cast in the film as Hamilton Crassus III, a character who resembles Donald Trump.
“What I didn’t want to happen is that we’re deemed some woke Hollywood production that’s simply lecturing viewers. The cast features people who were canceled at one point or another,” Coppola told Rolling Stone. “There were people who are archconservatives and others who are extremely politically progressive. But we were all working on one film together. That was interesting, I thought.”
7. Aubrey Plaza as Wow Platinum

The name Wow Platinum is definitely giving main character energy, but this photo implies a much more modest role than what we had in mind. We do think Aubrey Plaza is a great actress, especially in ensemble roles though and we’re excited to see her go to work as Wow.
8. Giancarlo Esposito as Mayor Cicero

Giancarlo Esposito is a master at his craft. We’re excited to see him go head to head with Adam Driver and we’re fully anticipating that we’ll become haters of the Mayor but even bigger lovers of the performance.
9. Will Francis Ford Coppola Do His Big One?
Source:Lionsgate
MEGALOPOLIS has already faced a good bit of controversy. Coppola was accused of kissing actresses on set during a scene with a club atmosphere. He denied those reports saying, “The young women I kissed on the cheek, in regards to the New Year’s scene, they were young women I knew.”
Audiences at Cannes were divided about MEGALOPOLIS. Some of the less-than-favorable responses might have become the impetus for a marketing campaign for the film around how the naysayers who badmouthed previous Coppola’s projects were proven wrong when they became classics. However, some of the quotes used to make this point turned out to be incorrect, leading the studio to take down the August trailer for the film where the quotes appeared.
