Pixar brings a mockumentary-style series set between Inside Out and its highly anticipated sequel, Inside Out 2 to life Dec. 11 on Disney+. The four-episode limited series explores the whimsical chaos of Riley’s dreams, which come to life nightly through a quirky production studio.
As Riley matures, her Core Emotions rely on Dream Productions to process memories in inventive ways. Leading the pack is Joy, portrayed by Amy Poehler, who continues in the fun alongside other stand out emotions brought to the big screen in the popular film franchise.
The studio’s eccentric director, Paula Persimmon (voiced by Paula Pell), must collaborate with daydream specialist Xeni (Richard Ayoade), whose ambitions stir up both hilarity and creative conflict. Together, they face the challenge of crafting unforgettable nighttime narratives, all while navigating their own emotional arcs.
The voice cast includes returning stars Maya Rudolph, Phyllis Smith, Bill Hader, Lewis Black, and Tony Hale, alongside new additions like Kensington Tallman and Liza Lapira. Helmed by writer-director Mike Jones and producer Jaclyn Simon, the series blends humor with heart, offering a fresh perspective on how dreams connect to identity and growth.
Adding to the magic, composer Nami Melumad’s original score will be available on streaming platforms starting Dec. 20, alllowing fans relive the wonder through music. “Dream Productions” promises a creative, laughter-filled journey into the art of dreaming, perfectly capturing Pixar’s signature storytelling charm.
