Netflix blessed us with the official trailer for Jamie Foxx’s upcoming comedy special What Had Happened Was…this week (December 5th). We also found out when we can expect to see it on our screens…..and it’s sooner than we thought. Continue reading to check out the trailer and to find out the premiere date!

On April 12th, 2023 Foxx’s daughter Corinne took to social media to announce that her father had been hospitalized after an unspecified medical emergency, but was recovering. A month later, amid reports and rumors about the nature of his condition (including that he was gravely ill), Corinne shared that Foxx had been “out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating”. In July, Foxx posted a video updating fans on his health, stating that he had been to “hell and back.” It wasn’t until December 3rd that he made his first public appearance since the hospitalization. He popped out to accept the Critic’s Choice Association’s Vanguard Award. In his speech, he shared that he couldn’t walk at first and discussed his recovery, without detailing exactly what led to his hospitalization. Despite the news of his health challenges, he walked Corinne down the aisle earlier this year at his home in Thousand Oaks, California.

That leads us to where we are now. In a heartfelt return, the Oscar and Grammy-winning comedy icon takes the stage for a groundbreaking special following the 2023 hospitalization. “If I can stay funny, I can stay alive,” he declares, as he sets the record straight with humor and vulnerability. Amidst laughter and applause, Jamie expresses deep gratitude to those who prayed and supported his recovery, turning this performance into a touching thank you to his fans. This comedy event is a celebration of resilience, humor, and the power of community, reminding us all of the healing power of laughter.

Foxx’s special was directed by Hamish Hamilton, who also served as an executive producer alongside Foxx. Other executive producers included Marcus King, Datari Turner, James Longman, Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan. Fans can expect to see the Foxxhole Productions and Done + Dusted produced standup exclusively on Netflix next week, December 10th. This will be the beginning of a busy winter for Foxx who also has an action comedy film with Cameron Diaz entitled Back In Action dropping on the streamer on January 17th. While we wait for that, check out the trailer and some photos from Jamie Foxx: What Happened Was… below. Share your thoughts in the comment section.
