Unapologetic, self-deprecating, humorous and hyper-relatable, this is what the L.A native Wallice’s sound is all about. She never holds back anything within her lyrics, she unleashes it all in a frenzy of witty anecdotes that dissect a wide variety of subject matters from the existential crisis that comes from growing another year older as shown in 23 or strained friendships where you’ve been cut out of someone’s life, even though you don’t want to be like within Punching Bag. She’s the Babe Ruth of the indie pop world with her swinging musical home run after musical home run and today is no different as she goes after the dangers of modern day dating in Hey Michael.

It’s a revenge anthem for anyone who’s ever experienced the gaslighting of manipulative people as she finally screams everything she wish she said to them over a raw production that captures the volatile emotion she felt. The chorus even gives you a chance to join in with the name Michael being interchangeable so you can yell whatever name you want at top volume in a beautiful moment of catharsis. However she doesn’t focus on this being a one sided argument though as she calls out her own questionable behaviour that she’s admitted to in the past. Combine all this with the music video featuring her doing best Patrick Bateman impression as she she sings, “hey Michael, you American psycho”, and you’ve got another homer to add to her ever growing collection.

“Hey Michael’ is a revenge anthem for anyone who has encountered a gaslighting, manipulative person,” she begins to say. “It’s what I wish I would have said to all the ‘Michael’s’ I have met in my life. It can be substituted by many names, we all know or have met a ‘Michael’ though. Somehow the world revolves around them and they just can’t catch a break, because they never do anything wrong and it’s usually your fault. You should have listened to your gut instinct and swiped left on this Michael. This isn’t a man-hating song, it’s just something many people can relate to. Sometimes it’s embarrassing to admit just how bad a friend, date, or romantic partner was and a lot of the time, I would just smile and laugh off stupid remarks but when I think back, I wish I had told them off.  But at the same time, my persona in the song is not the best person either. I literally say “I think I want to start a fight, which one is your girlfriend?” The whole song is funny because I am so focused on how shitty Michael is that I don’t even think about how shitty I might be as well.”
