“Win or Lose” was co-created and executively produced by Michael Yates and Carrie Hobson. The first original series from Pixar explores the interconnected stories of eight unique characters as they prepare for a championship softball game. This milestone moment for Pixar highlights the studio’s commitment to innovation and creative storytelling.
Drawing inspiration from her own experience playing softball, Hobson explains the show’s premise.
“Fast-pitch softball felt like the perfect backdrop,” she shared in a statement. “Sports bring out the best and worst in people, and the stakes feel monumental, even when the consequences are relatively small. It’s a rich arena for exploring human emotions.”
The show’s co-creator, Yates, emphasized the importance of perspective.
“Carrie and I were officemates on Toy Story 4, and we often had completely different interpretations of the same events,” he shared. “That sparked the idea of telling a story from multiple viewpoints, illustrating how our unique experiences shape how we see the world.”
The series features an impressive voice cast, including Will Forte, Lil Rel Howery, Rosa Salazar, and Rhea Seehorn, among others. Each character’s perspective is brought to life with humor, heart, and Pixar’s signature animation style, delivering a uniquely immersive viewing experience.
Produced by David Lally, “Win or Lose” boasts music by Grammy-winning composer Ramin Djawadi (Game of Thrones) and original songs by CAMPFIRE and Djawadi, enhancing the series’ emotional resonance.
The show’s creators aimed to capture the emotional highs and lows of sports while exploring themes of insecurity, love, ambition, and resilience. From a lovesick umpire to helicopter parents and hopeful kids, the series showcases the many ways individuals experience the same event.
Pixar’s “Win or Lose” promises to be an engaging, heartfelt addition to the Disney+ lineup, offering a fresh narrative approach that highlights the complexity of human relationships and the power of perspective. Don’t miss this groundbreaking series when it premieres Feb. 19th on Disney+.
