Listen to VANITY HERE.

Fresh out the gates, the focus track “I’d Rather Pretend” has exploded virally, with follower counts skyrocketing and his previous five singles reaching new daily streaming peaks as a result. On his personal channels alone, cumulative views for “I’d Rather Pretend” have already crossed 17 million views on TikTok and are currently approaching 10 million views on Instagram Reels. On the song, Bryant’s vocals flutter over a piano driven track as he wrestles with mixed feelings as he exhales, “I want to love you but I’m scared, so I’d rather pretend.”

Elsewhere on the 7 track debut written and produced by Bryant Barnes and others, he emerges with a catchy and genre bending vision for alternative pop punctuated by indie spirit and enigmatic energy.

“Don’t Let It Be U” sees an upbeat acoustic guitar coast over an organic beat, while he flexes his skyscraper-size high register. During the anthemic hook, he pleads, “Don’t let it be you, what was my faith for?” Electric guitar revs up “Universe,” while Bryant yearns to escape, “Take me to your world.” A groovy bassline thumps through “Want You All The Time” topped off with a promise, “I will never hurt you again.”

Bryant paved the way for this body of work with “Give Me A Sign.” Beyond tallying over two million streams and counting, it earned critical acclaim. OnesToWatch hailed it as “a track that synthesizes lo-fi pop with alternative R&B into something just as unique as it is polished,” proceeding to predict, “Barnes is sure to carry R&B on his back all summer.”

He first gave his followers a sneak peek of the song on Instagram Reels, and it blew up, racking up over 6.5 million views. The hype led to 15K pre-saves, proving fans were hungry for more.

It landed in the wake of “Don’t Want A Love Song,” which has popped off to the tune of over 4.1 million Spotify streams and 2 million views on its music video. Garnering critical acclaim, Rated R&B highlighted how “On the melancholic ballad, driven by an acoustic guitar, Barnes laments about the void left by unrequited love.” SWEETY HIGH proclaimed, “Bryant Barnes is one to watch in 2024,”
going on to elaborate, “The singer-songwriter and musician puts all of his talents on vulnerable display on the new track, and he’s just getting started.”

He notably capped off 2023 with “Adore You – Acoustic.” The latter highlighted the raw power of his vocals. The original “Adore You” has seen huge early success across all streaming platforms and continues to gain traction in addition to inciting tastemaker applause. Beyond plugs from Neon Music and more, Music & Fashion Blog promised, “Within the first 30 seconds you’ll be transported into a sexy mood with soft beats and vocals you’ll just want to swim in.” Plus, Banger of the Day raved, “From his vocal tone to his songwriting, he is leagues above his industry counterparts. Bryant Barnes has the ‘IT’ factor.”

However, it quickly shifts to different motivating scenes with Darren uplifting his homies, and even himself, through his lyrics. Inspiration for some of the scenes were taken from Ray Lewis’ legendary pregame huddle speeches, and there’s even a nod to the ‘We Believe’ Warriors with Darren rocking a Baron Davis jersey on top of a hill.

Darren’s message is simple, “Get back up! Keep going. The only story that matters is the one you tell yourself.”

6. Jutes – Safe Word

Source:Jutes

Akin to the nostalgic, 2000s pop/punk sounds of Linkin Park and the nu-metal style of Deftones, Jutes’ independent sophomore album ‘Sleepyhead,’ a continuation of his Sleepyhead EP,’ is set to release October 17th. The Ottawa-via-LA rock/pop artist and songwriter announces his new album today (8.1) with the release of “Safe Word.”

Its sensual undertones, powerful vocals and driving instrumentation create an atmosphere perfect for both a lively night out and an evening in, keeping listeners moving and fully engaged.

“The ‘Sleepyhead EP’, which is now evolving into ‘Sleepyhead’ the album, was extremely vibe heavy. 7. Fousheé – Still Around

Source:Fousheé

Just when you think you know Fousheé, she zags. Folk hits to punk albums to rap features, she continues to refuse to be boxed in. And at a time when algorithms are putting all of our music in boxes, it couldn’t be more refreshing.

Today, Fousheé is thrilled to announce her incredible next album – Pointy Heights – set for release on September 13th via RCA Records.  The LP shares its name with the land her grandfather purchased in Jamaica, with the intention that her whole family could build homes and live there. With Pointy Heights, Fousheé zigs out of the frenetic R&B-punk of her acclaimed previous album, softCORE, as she paints an entirely new sonic palette. Playing the part of singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer, we enter a world shaped by her home, where old school, indie Reggae, rhythms buoy dance-friendly melodies and a natural cool that makes her the go-to collaborator for today’s biggest artists. The album is a 180 by an artist who makes genres feel like quaint ideas of a bygone era.  In Pointy Heights, Fousheé makes an entirely new sound, an effortlessly bold move from an artist who has created one of the most adventurous, melodically resonant records of the year.

Pointy Heights is rich with crackling bass lines, spangly guitar parts, and rollicking, sharp drum sounds, all anchored by the next level songwriting that has defined Fousheé since her first project – time machine – was released three years ago.  Her songwriting prowess has made her one of the most sought-after collaborators of the last few years, collaborating with Childish Gambino’s Donald Glover, Steve Lacy, Teezo Touchdown, Lil Yachty, and more.

An amazing new track from the album, entitled Still Around is available to hear today.

If her breakthrough hit “Deep End” introduced Fousheé to the world, softCORE brought Fousheé front and center.  When it was released, 2022’s softCORE exploded out of nowhere, the equivalent of a sugar high times ten filtered through a redefining of what is expected from female artists; it was met with massive acclaim and excitement and launched Fousheé into her own lane of exceptionalism.  Following its release, Fousheé won a Grammy for her work on friend and collaborator Steve Lacy’s breakthrough hit “Bad Habit,” in addition to seeing her open for Lacy throughout the world in the year that followed.  Fousheé received love from the likes of Rolling Stone, GQ, Alternative Press, Office Magazine, Variety, HommeGirls, NME, The Guardian, Crack Magazine, and more around softCORE; she played NPR’s Tiny Desk; she sat front row at Paris Fashion Week at shows by Chanel, Givenchy, and more.  softCORE basically brought Fousheé to the world and the world to Fousheé.

Ultimately, the path around the globe took her back to Jamaica, where her family is from; a place she had not been to since she was six years old.   Fousheé had been in the middle of writing songs for her next project when the trip happened, and it literally changed everything.  She scrapped the songs on which she’d been working and started anew, using elements of the music that was literally in her blood to help push her songwriting and sounds forward.  The result is stands uniquely, brilliantly on its own as an album unlike any other and one of the best records of 2024.

10. BoyWithUke – Ghost

Source:BoyWithUke

Today, the now unmasked singer-songwriter BoyWithUke, aka Charley Yang, announced his final album, Burnout, the first full length project dedicated to his true self after taking off the mask that turned him into an internet sensation. Burnout, a more mature and authentic album filled with symbolism for embracing change, facing your fears and defying metaphorical boxes, is slated for release on November 8, 2024, via AWAL Recordings. Yang also confirmed this will be the last album released under the BoyWithUke moniker, with more information to follow.

Along with the announcement, BoyWithUke today released his latest single, “Ghost,” a spacey blend of r&b, dark ambient and alternative rock. “Ghost” explored love and its aftermath with a captivating rhythm that transcended into a romantic rock explosion, tenderly depicting the unpredictability of infatuation. The song was debuted by Consequence, who stated, “For the artist born Charley Yang, the full-length project is an opportunity to introduce listeners to his most authentic self.”

On “Ghost,” BoyWithUke said: “‘Ghost’ has some of my favorite productions. It’s also the first time we used live drums. Overall the song is very dynamic, with changes in energy happening as often as possible.”

On Burnout, BoyWithUke said: “’Burnout’ to me is music that most closely resembles who I am right now. Creating it filled me with so much joy, excitement, anxiety, and pain. It is everything I have left in the tank as BoyWithUke, and I am so proud.”

For years, Charley Yang embraced a duality between fame and privacy while his music project known as BoyWithUke, took off on the internet behind a mysterious mask he purchased on Amazon.com. He achieved the unthinkable: to make extremely personal and relatable music without ever revealing his face. Anonymously venturing far beyond his trademark ukulele-filled bedroom pop, experimenting with sounds from alternative rock to rhythmic hip-hop across hit singles including “Toxic” (872M+ global streams on Spotify), “IDGAF” (ft. blackbear) and “Migraine.” BoyWithUke resonated with an overall audience of 16+ million internationally, with only a close handful of his inner circle knowing his true identity.

In October 2023, BoyWithUke made the decision to share an image of his face on social media, alongside the release of his latest album, Lucid Dreams. As support from his fans flooded in, BoyWithUke soars to even greater heights with the new music, debuting on Jimmy Kimmel but he still performed behind the electronic mask that he used to simultaneously hide his identity and build his brand.

Earlier this summer, BoyWithUke returned with the album’s lead single “Can You Feel It?” –an indie rock thrill ride that provided a different taste to the upcoming project aside from “Ghost.” Burnout is BoyWithUke’s skillful attempt at experimenting with different sounds and genres, exploring symbolism of the intricacies of self identity. Mask off with no more withholding, this next era of BoyWithUke is set to both explain and elaborate on Charley Yang’s journey as and beyond “the boy with the mask.”

Important to Karis while writing the song was embodying the sensation of “driving down Sunset Boulevard with the love of your life” and it’s felt deeply in the refrain of “nobody knows me like my baby does, and I’m riding till the wheels fall off.”

The compelling music video for “SUNSET BLVD” features Insecure and Presumed Innocent star Sarunas J. Jackson. The project is undoubtedly a fun-filled love letter to Los Angeles, highlighting the endless adventure and opportunity the city has to offer. As Jaz hops into an electric blue convertible and cruises by columns of palm trees with her summer love, the world becomes her oyster. The blend of stunning golden-hour visuals and smooth, upbeat rhythms emphasize this infectious energy.

The debut album, SAFE FLIGHT, takes its name from the messages Jaz receives from family when setting off on international work adventures, recording in LA, shooting music videos in Barbados, partying in Ghana, and returning home to her roots in London. SAFE FLIGHT finds an accomplished, assured artist reflecting on where she’s been and ready to step up to the next level. At once soulful, vibey and poignant, this is an album about embracing possibility, admitting mistakes, and trusting the process.

15. Rarri True – Only Ten Mins EP

Source:RARRI TRUE

Chicago-bred rapper Rarri True is ready to reignite his passion as he brings forth his highly-anticipated EP, ONLY TEN MINS.

Rarri True is making a powerful comeback after a year-long hiatus, in which he took the time to redefine his artistry. Now, he is back with a carefully crafted project, complemented by a strategic rollout of hard-hitting music videos. Over the past month, Rarri has released a new song and video each week, showcasing his readiness to reclaim his spot in the rap scene with a sound that is distinctly his own.

ONLY TEN MINS offers listeners a glimpse into Rarri’s world, telling an unparalleled story through four compelling tracks. The EP opens with “Gave Your Last”, which dives deep into the emotions of selflessness and sacrifice, while highlighting the struggle of giving to others while expecting nothing in return. This powerful message resonates throughout the entire EP and the emotional weight of Rarri’s lyrics should not go unnoticed.

The second and lead single, ”Last Supper”, released earlier this month to critical acclaim and showcases Rarri’s hard work and dedication on the path to success. The theme of resilience threads through the EP with tracks like “Pop Out” and “Took Losses”, reflecting on Rarri’s time away and his determination to return stronger than ever. ONLY TEN MINS is not just an EP; it’s Rarri’s heartfelt reintroduction to his fans and a warm welcome to new listeners to discover the depth and creativity he has to offer. If they don’t know him yet, they will soon!

16. Body Count – F*** What You Heard

Source:Century Media Records

Today, Body Count releases the music video to “Fuck What You Heard,” a blistering anthem (released on 7/19) that takes aim at the nation’s political landscape. With its unrelenting hook of “Democrips and Bloodpublicans,” Ice-T delivers a provocative critique from his independent perspective. “I have friends across the aisle,” Ice-T explains, “but my views are balanced and unapologetic.”

Through a seamless blend of footage, the music video highlights the chaotic and often brutal clashes that have come to characterize the current political climate of the U.S.

“Fuck What You Heard” is a track off Body Count’s forthcoming album, Merciless. Their last release, Carnivore, was released in 2020 and earned the band a Grammy for Best Metal Performance. The band recently finished their EU/UK Merciless Tour, and will headline at the Louder Than Life Festival in Louisville, KY, and the Aftershock Festival in Sacramento, CA. this fall. Tickets are available HERE. See below for itinerary.

For Body Count, it’s been a history of being both respected and feared – a barbed-wire thread that stretches back to the band’s origins as a project between Ice-T and Crenshaw High friend, Ernie C. Their first shot fired, the song, “Body Count,” was a mission statement on Ice-T’s 1991 O.G. – Original Gangster.

They touched a nerve with their first, self-titled 1991 album and its divisive track, “Cop Killer,” which inspired generations of bands to follow. What they took from growing up with Black Sabbath and being inspired by fellow L.A. legends like Slayer and Suicidal Tendencies has only upped the ante for generations of metal heads and hardcore fans. Body Count’s current line-up includes surviving OG’s Ice, Ernie C. and Sean E Sean joined by bassist Vincent Price, drummer Will “Ill Will” Dorsey, Juan “Juan of the Dead” Garcia and backing vocalist Little Ice.

17. MARIPOSA – Myers

The track is lined with MARIPOSA’s exhilarating nitro fueled sound that thrills with its fiercely confessional, menacing raps that undeniably sets her apart from the pack. Inframundo will undeniably demonstrate why the young MARIPOSA remains a formidable force in the Latin rap arena.

Most recently, MARIPOSA delivered an electrifying set at Dour Festival in Belgium last week, sharing the stage with the likes of Ice Spice, Arca, and other beloved artists from around the world.

The Amsterdam-based trilingual artist MARIPOSA taught herself how to make music and record from scratch as a vehicle for self-expression and healing. She is at the forefront of a movement shifting the music landscape to be more fluid and inclusive. With the teen Y2K aesthetic juxtaposed, MARIPOSA’s menacing raps speak on mental health, pushing up against social norms and empowerment. Continuing to redefine the landscape of Latin rap, MARIPOSA pushes the boundaries with her genre-defying sound. She represents a new generation that thrives at the intersection of cultures, languages, and genres, placing her multidimensional identities at the forefront of artistic expression. 19. Gunna – one of wun

Source:Gunna

Today, four-time GRAMMY® Award-nominated, multi-platinum Atlanta rap superstar Gunna unveiled the official music video for his title track “one of wun,” directed by Spike Jordan and filmed at the Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta, GA.

The visual places Gunna in a different context altogether. This time around, he assumes the dual-role of two very different coaches competing against one another. Each of his characters masterminds strategy in his own way. One coach quietly orchestrates plays like chess moves, methodically drawing out his vision for victory in the locker room. The other coach takes over the court, commanding the action from the sidelines with authority and bombast. The game intensifies with a championship on the line, but coach Gunna remains calm.

Not to mention, Atlanta’s own DJ Greg Street of V-103 notably cameos in the clip too. Other cast includes Tyran Stokes of Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, CA (#1 ranked player class of 2026), Brandon McCoy Jr. of St. John Bosco in Bellflower, CA (#2 ranked player class of 2026), Grant Nelson of Alabama University Men’s Basketball, Isaiah Elohim of University Southern California Men’s Basketball, comedian and former pro football player Lou Young, and comedian Navv Greene. OTE players are Parker Robinson (Rising Junior), Jayden Wilkins (Rising Sophomore), and Romelo Hill (Rising Junior).

“One of Wun” made its broadcast premiere on MTV Live, MTVU, Yo! MTV, and on the Paramount Times Square billboards. The song proves to be the perfect soundtrack to success. Not to mention, Atlanta’s own Greg Street of V-103 notably cameos in the clip too.

In other news, Gunna recently concluded the international leg of his acclaimed “Bittersweet” Tour. Throughout July, he graced the bills of major European festivals across Poland, Norway, France, England, and more. Plus, he notably lit up the stage at Wireless Festival in London, UK. Returning stateside, he just delivered a triumphant set at Broccoli City Festival in Washington, D.C., igniting the crowd.

Gunna’s fifth studio album One of Wun notably marks his first full-length release since his 2023 chart topping album a Gift & a Curse. The 20-track album boasts superstar collaborations with Offset, Normani, Leon Bridges and Roddy Ricch – Get it HERE.

“‘If You Were My Girl’ is the second single from my forthcoming EP. When creating this song, one of my friends was being treated poorly and I felt that if she was my girl, I would treat her better than that. I love this song so much and I think it’s a perfect follow up to ‘Pretty Baby,’” says Alex Sampson.

He recently ignited a wave of excitement around his performance of “Pretty Baby” as part of the America’s Got Talent Auditions. Watch HERE. That’s what happened during Alex Sampson’s audition on America’s Got Talent. You could sense the audience swooning.”

Alex Sampson recently unveiled his debut Blurry Vision EP. Right out of the gate, RAIN praised, “Beyond the sheer enjoyment, anthemic rhythms, and Sampson’s dynamic vocals lies an incisive and mature sense of self-awareness.” Plus, Sweety High raved, “It spans emotional pop to pulse-pounding rock and everything in between, with each song anchored by Alex’s soaring and anthemic vocals, and a story that’s had us enthralled beginning to end.” Listen to Blurry Vision HERE.

Growing up in a small town in Canada, music offered Alex a window to a bigger world. Upon gaining traction with a series of covers on TikTok, he connected with audiences via his first original single “Stay Here.” On its heels, Alex released “All That We Could Have Been” and “Play Pretend.” All of this leading up to his debut EP, Blurry Vision.

Source:Big Sean

Ahead of the release of his forthcoming album Better Me Than You, GRAMMY®-nominated multiplatinum artist Big Sean releases a heartfelt new single and music video “On Up” available now via Def Jam Recordings.

On the breezy, buoyant, and bold track, sampling Jodeci’s classic hit by the same name, Sean celebrates fatherhood. Backed by handclaps and an upbeat groove, he gets introspective as he muses, “I look into my son’s eyes and still see his innocence. At the same time, he paints a vivid picture of his first year as a dad. Across the verses, he shares knowledge with his baby boy and cherishes the moment, “Close my eyes, picture heaven, and it’s where I’m at. The accompanying visual literally places the viewer in son, Noah Hasani’s shoes. Shot from the baby’s perspective, it captures a candid “day-in-the-life” of the whole family as proud parents Sean and Jhené Aiko show life at home during playtime, bath time and bedtime.

“On Up” marks the third song to be released from the hip hop powerhouse’s eagerly awaited sixth studio album Better Me Than You following the hard-hitting “Yes” which he debuted on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and the pummeling comeback single “Precision.

Of the forthcoming album’s title, Sean posted an introspective video on social media explaining: “It’s usually better you than me, but I realize when you that one that has to step up and endure it all – endure the extras, maybe break a cycle in your family or change your environment for your circle, or whatever the case may be – when you got to be that one, it’s like you realize that you’re only put there because you’re the one that can handle it. Because that’s the way God made it for you. So you realize that, alright, better me than you because I’m the one that can do it. I’m a better me than you could ever be, you feel me? When I hold my son I feel like, right now it’s on me. It’s on Dad to take the extras, and sometimes it’s on his mama to step up and be that- the person that has to endure it all, but one day, it’s going to be on him. And when it is, I hope he realizes that it’s not a burden. It’s an opportunity. It’s a responsibility that you’re meant for. Better Me Than You.”

Keeping his foot on the gas, Sean will sit down with Charlamagne tha God for an in-depth and unfiltered conversation on his “Out of Context” series streaming Friday, August 2 at 9am ET. Watch the episode trailer now HERE.

Billboard put it best when they declared, “Big Sean season has returned.”

In a world full of broken systems and constant reminders of anxiety and stress, “Never Walk Alone” arrives as a friend to those who might not have anyone or anything to lean on. By blending electronic music, pop, indie, and soul influences, BLOND:ISH aims to reach as many listeners as she can, beaming her compassionate transmissions far and wide in hopes of getting the planet closer to “Happy Happy World” (an inclusive place of sustainable unity, respect, and nourishment).

BLOND:ISH’s unwavering commitment to contributing positivity to the music industry has come to define her as an artist. Whether it’s organizing group hugs before her sets or taking initiative against single-use plastics, BLOND:ISH wants to leave the world a better place than she found it. Her newest single, a song meant to serve as a friend in a time of anxiety or loneliness, is the latest manifestation of her vision.

Firmly established as a go-to talent in the songwriting world, Stevie Appleton has worked alongside electronic music titans such as Tiesto, John Summit, Gorgon City, and more with No. 1 hits around the world An accomplished pianist by a young age, Appleton’s knack for writing melodies and love for dance music earned him a key songwriting role at Spinnin Records immediately after attending college in London. Since then, he’s become a platinum-selling artist.

Record label head, environmental activist, Web3 entrepreneur, and new mom, BLOND:ISH breaks down traditional barriers between artist and fan, uniting her community through pillars of purpose. Igniting a movement coined “Sustainable Raving,” BLOND:ISH founded Bye Bye Plastic, an initiative that aims to eliminate single-use plastics from clubs and festivals by encouraging artists to use eco-riders that demand alternatives and by providing resources to promoters who want to change. Last year, BLOND:ISH released #PlasticFreeParty, a compilation pressed on completely biodegradable vinyl using a material made of PHA.

Consistently on the road as a service to her fans, BLOND:ISH has a mixture of club and festival sets on the horizon with appearances at Delta Festival in Marseilles, Circoloco in Ibiza, III Points in Miami, and a residency at Alemagou in Mikonos, Greece. 29. Wayne Graham – I Had Plans

Source:Wayne Graham

Today, Kentucky-based band Wayne Graham released their new single “I Had Plans” from their forthcoming album Bastion, due out September 6 via Hickman Holler Records/Thirty Tigers.

Bastion – their ninth studio album – is a sonic shift embracing their Appalachian roots, but bursting forward into indie rock sounds, from wall of sound guitars to listless shuffled rhythms, and sprinkled with avant garde and jazz influences. The album explores themes of the meaning of home, and the feeling of no longer belonging to a place you grew up in. Wayne Graham comprises brothers Kenny and Hayden Miles, as well as José Oreta and Germany-based instrumentalist Ludwig Bauer.

“I Had Plans” is a contemplative exploration of a familiar feeling – having lots of  dreams, plans, and being smacked down by a cruel world with other ideas. Over shuffling beats and a lilting piano melody, a mournful clarinet weaves with vocalist Kenny Miles’ laid-back vocals, who sings “all this time I’ve been acting like I was meant for something more / but I’m just here to follow the leader.”

Under The Radar premiered the track, saying, “‘I Had Plans’ takes on a breezy and meandering presence, colored by easygoing guitar, keys, and woodwinds. The track recalls singer/songwriters like Andy Shauf, both in its lithe instrumental touches and its lyrical character portraits…Yet, despite the track’s airy, sun-dappled energy, the lyrics reveal an understated disquiet.”

On their ninth studio album, the band welcome a sense of looseness, unraveling and a touch of the avant-garde as they continue to shift the New Appalachian movement forward with this seminal work, shaped by tradition (hymns, high and lonesome) but intent on breaking boundaries in the sonic landscape by experimenting with synths, production work and unexpected instruments like  clarinets. Their songs crackle with energy, using folk and country as a foundation for fearless explorations of jazz, punk, soul, noise, classic rock, and modern classical.

Opener “We Could’ve Been Friends” crawls along with the thrust of dance music—“we were trying to write an LCD Soundsystem song,” says Kenny—but they punctuate it with psychedelic guitars and violent percussion, as though soundtracking a nightmare of disconnection. It’s immediately followed by “The Patsy,” a jazz instrumental that sounds like Brubeck taking five deep in Appalachia.  “Shoot Me,” a slow meditation opened with a discordant piano riff, is a weary-yet-tense examination of racial attitudes in small town America, and “Swingin’ Round” – which has the humble melody of a Protestant hymn – was inspired by the drag ban.

“That song comes from a place of frustration,” he says. “I started writing it around the time the drag ban was being talked about in Kentucky and Tennessee, and as I worked on it, it morphed into a song about trying to find a way to communicate with people you disagree with, even if it’s family.”

“Our music is the way it is because we’re from here,” says Hayden Miles “It’s very specifically Kentucky.” As adults, however, they find themselves increasingly alienated from the culture and values of the place, a small town not unlike so many other small towns in America. “I feel very fortunate to be able to say we’re from here, and it’s inspiring to watch other people from this region find success,” says Kenny, who lives two hours away in Lexington, Kentucky. “At the same time it can be very isolating. It feels strange to play our hometown, because our music isn’t what people are looking for here. Sometimes Wayne Graham feels like a square peg in a round hole.”

Wayne Graham, named after brothers Kenny and Hayden Miles’ two grandfathers, each coal-miners with storied histories,  has long been at the forefront of the new movement of artists shaping the New Appalachian Sound – shaped by tradition, but intentionally set on forging a new sonic landscape. Bastion was produced by brothers Hayden and Kenny Miles, the latter of whom has done production work with Tyler Childers, 49 Winchester, Vincent Neil Emerson, Senora May, Laid Back Country Picker, Luna and the Mountain Jets, Sean Whiting, Tenure, Slut Pill, Grayson Jenkins, Pierceton Hobbs, Appalachiatari, Paul Handelman, Dennis & the Ponies, and many more.

It doubles as a reaction to his most recent release “What’s Going On,” which dispensed relationship wisdom to both men and women in equal measure. With a cameo from none other than Tia Kemp for the continuation of the story. She and Ralo rate various contestants on a 1-10 scale. Tia promises, “A king deserves a queen, and I got you,” as all kinds of hilarity ensues.

“2 Sides Of The Story shows my growth as an artist. I’m from Sugarhill but there’s more to me than just that,” said Sugarhill Ddot, “I spent the last year working on this debut album. I want people to see the two sides of me. I can do street records but also smooth melodic records.”

Among the album’s many highlights, he unveils the very first posthumous feature from the late multiplatinum icon PNB Rock on the Hitmaka-produced single “Lamborghini Dreams.” Hypnotic synths wrap around simmering hi-hats as an upbeat back-and-forth takes hold punctuate by ambitious rhymes. Elsewhere, HUNXHO appears on the intoxicating “Bartender” where Sugarhill Ddot delivers another infectious refrain, “Would’ve thought I was a bartender the way I throw shots.” He joins forces with Skilla Baby for the lyrical frenzy of “Swaggy N Finesse” fueled by fast-paced flows and charismatic bars.

He gets introspective on “Can’t Slip,” going on to reflect about various trials and tribulations throughout his come-up. Uplifted by cinematic stings, he reminds, “I just gotta keep going, can’t slip.” Acoustic guitar underscores his melodic delivery on “Pocket Rocket as he cleverly promises, “I got Bucks coming in like Giannis.” Then, there’s “I Cannot Love You Again.” Stark piano chords give way to a heart-wrenching hook, “I cannot love you again.”

Meanwhile, Luh Tyler lights up “3AM in the Yams” with Sugarhill Ddot, adding yet another dimension to this bold body of work. Not to mention, a cohort of heavy-hitters—Fridayy, Quay Global, and McVertt—blessed him with production on various tracks.

He paved the way for the project’s arrival with “Like This.” The latter includes an iconic Ginuwine sample and has already amassed millions of streams. It garnered  looks from HipHopDXET, and more, Billboard predicted, “With co-signs from Drake and Lil Durk, the future is bright for the Priority Records signee.”

This year Sugarhill Ddot made his Rolling Loud debut and kicked off the year with his singles “Outside” and “Tweakin” In 2023, Sugarhill Ddot dropped a slew of singles from the high-intensity “Spinnin’ Pt. 2” with BBG Steppaa. It was preceded by “My Baby,” the rambunctious “Shake It,” and the Miami-inspired “3AM In The Yams.” That track quickly made waves, hitting over one million video views within four days. It’s a testament to Ddot meteoric rise to prominence. To kick off his Priority Records debut the young MC dropped the MCVertt (Lil Uzi Vert) produced standout track “Let Ha Go” alongside a striking George Buford (Ice Spice) directed video

Beginning at age 13, Ddot quickly made waves with his abilities. Through YouTube, his self-released tracks “I Wanna Love You,” “Dream,” and “The Real Purge” have racked up nearly 20 million combined views — and those conventional metrics only capture a small slice of this phenomenon’s first steps to stardom. To date, he has amassed over 105 million streams in his budding career.

42. NERO – Solar

Source:NERO

Grammy-winning, Ivor Novello-nominated live electronic trio NERO have shared ‘Solar’, the final single ahead of their highly-anticipated third studio album Into The Unknown due out August 16. ‘Solar’ follows the album’s previous singles ‘Truth’, ‘Blame You’, ‘Draw Energy’, and ‘Too Many Questions’.

The final taste of NERO’s impending album is an everlasting, cosmic array of the powerful vocals and whirlwind sounds that fans can anticipate on Into The Unknown. ‘Solar’ is a wondrous prelude into the album as it mirrors the ambitious production and fantastical songwriting threaded throughout the NERO universe. Led by Alana’s starry-eyed vocals, ‘Solar’ is equal parts anthemic and poetic, beautiful yet shadowy, and dynamically complex on a sonic level.

“This track started with the lead line and the vocal topline. We tried a few different versions but it wasn’t until we started getting scenes back from the music video that we really honed the vibe. We were writing it whilst watching a rough cut of the video and as a result the song took on a cyberpunk-like, futuristic feel. A mix of energy and melancholy.” – NERO

Last year, Daniel Stephens, Joe Ray, and Alana Watson reemerged as NERO with their first solo single, ‘Truth’, following a five-year hiatus. Nearly a decade since the band headlined Coachella’s Outdoor Stage (2015) and premiered their second studio album Between II Worlds, NERO will conclude their album trilogy this year with Into The Unknown

Marking a significant return for NERO, Into The Unknown traces the final chapters of the trilogy’s post-apocalyptic tale while encapsulating the band’s 20-year career and the boundless cross-genre antics that have solidified the trio as electronic innovators. A testament to their UK rave roots, the album has already touched on styles like UKG, dubstep, and drum & bass through its diverse singles, with each addition to Into The Unknown deepening the futuristic lens of NERO’s creativity.

‘Solar’ arrives ahead of NERO’s long-awaited third studio album Into The Unknown, due out August 16, and headline U.S. tour, which is on-sale now. Stream ‘Solar’ available now on all platforms and pre-order Into The Unknown.

43. Olivia O’Brien – out of your league (but i want you so bad)

Source:Olivia O’Brien

Following the success of her love & limerence EP, acclaimed singer/songwriter Olivia O’Brien returns with her summer single, “out of your league (but I want u so bad),” out today via girlhood records and ADA. This new track continues to showcase Olivia’s knack for capturing relatable, real-life experiences with her signature blend of vulnerability and catchy melodies.

“out of your league (but I want u so bad)” delves into the universal experience of having an inexplicable crush on someone who, by all rational measures, doesn’t seem to deserve it. In Olivia’s words, “I think nearly everyone, at one low point or another, has had an inexplicable crush on someone. A crush that nobody else seems to understand. A crush on someone who appears to have absolutely zero redeeming qualities. Your friends hate them, they treat you poorly, they probably don’t even like you back at all, and they aren’t even conventionally attractive, either… but there’s just something that keeps drawing you back in. Sometimes the only thing you can do in this situation is have the self-awareness to make a fun song about it so that you can look back and laugh when you finally come to your senses.”

This new single takes a lighter approach to romance compared to the deeply reflective tracks from “love & limerence,” making it feel perfect for easy listening. “out of your league (but I want u so bad)” combines Olivia’s signature introspective lyrics with an infectious, lively sound that captures the carefree essence of summer.

With over 3.4 million monthly listeners on Spotify and a string of hits including “Empty,” “hate u love u,” and “Josslyn,” which collectively have over half a billion streams on Spotify alone, Olivia continues to solidify her place in the music industry. Her recent performances, including a sold-out show at The Racket in NYC and an intimate Sofar Sounds show, have further demonstrated her strong connection with her audience.

44. Gryffin – PULSE

Source:GRYFFIN

Dance music maverick Gryffin has unveiled his highly anticipated third studio album PULSE out now via Virgin Music. The 14-track album features previously released singles ‘LAST OF US’ with Rita Ora, ‘WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG’ with Armin Van Buuren, ‘MAGIC’ with babyidontlikeyou, ‘MAGNET’ with Disco Fries and MAX, and ‘DANCE THROUGH THE NIGHT’ with Whethan and Norma Jean Martine.

Inspired by his early-mid 2000s roots, PULSE triumphs as an ode to electronic music’s golden era, capturing a kaleidoscopic medley of progressive house, melodic techno, drum & bass, deep tech, trance, and the various sub-genres that exist between.

While emulating the lyrically-led nature of his previous albums Gravity and AlivePULSE strikes a different tone with upbeat rhythms and elevated synthwork. The album is crafted around the ebb and flow of the dance floor as an embodiment of where the music is meant to be heard. It embraces the collective energy and interpersonal spirit found throughout electronic music. Envisioned for audiences of both his pop leaning collabs and the more rave curious, PULSE is a shot of adrenaline that draws from Gryffin’s early experiences in the electronic underground.

“My third album, PULSE, is a tribute to all of the electronic influences that turned me into the artist I am today. It’s the most energetic and cohesive body of work I’ve ever put out. I definitely pushed myself outside of my comfort zone as an artist and delivered something that brought a whole new perspective to my style of music. I experimented with a bunch of different sub genres within dance music like techno and drum and bass. This album is a testament to dance music culture and highlights how versatile this genre is. PULSE reminds me of why I fell in love with dance music in the first place. I’ve never had so much fun making an album, so stoked for all of you to listen.” – Gryffin

PULSE sees Gryffin experiment more freely throughout the dance music ecosystem than ever before, with fast-paced tempos on tracks like ‘FALLING TO PIECES’ and ‘ON THE LINE’, and expansive builds on songs like ‘SONAR HEART’ and ‘DANCE THROUGH THE NIGHT’. 45. Mutant Academy ft. Quelle Chris – Liberation

Source:Mutant Academy

Richmond, Virginia, hip-hop collective Mutant Academy announce their formal introduction as a full collective with their forthcoming debut album, Keep Holly Alive, out September 20th via Equity Distribution. This seminal work not only marks their official first Mutant Academy effort involving all of the group’s core members, but serves as a bold proclamation to the world of their intent to become a pinnacle name in the tapestry of hip-hop’s rich history of dynamic, multi-faceted groups. Picking up where they left off with the collective’s 4-song “appetizer” that was their TALK SOON EP released earlier this year, Keep Holly Alive is the group’s definitive statement and a testament to the power of working and creating alongside your chosen family.

Along with the album’s announcement, the collective shares the album’s lead single “Liberation,” featuring frequent collaborator Quelle Chris. The single epitomizes its title—altruistic yet subtle. With breezy production aided by ULB (Unlucky Bastards), Mutant Academy establishes their strength as a collective with each emcee bringing a distinct style to the track.

What began more than a decade ago between two friends (Fly Anakin and Henny L.O.) in Richmond, Virginia, has now blossomed into a self-sufficient and multi-disciplinary collective that also includes Big Kahuna OG, Ohbliv, Graymatter, Foisey, ewonee, Sycho Sid and Unlucky Bastards. Each Mutant Academy project is rife with a chemistry that can only be found amongst longtime friends, but also a friendly competition, with each Mutant Academy song serving as a chance for each member to spar and hone their skill set as an emcee or producer.

As members of the collective grow in stature as solo artists, each project, mention and credit illuminates the Mutant Academy name and draws eyes back to the group to continue to expand its audience. Notably, Fly Anakin has received notable recognition for his solo work of the years, including praise from The Alchemist, and collaborations with Madlib and Pink Siifu, but the rest of Mutant Academy has never been far behind. Conway The Machine has ensured steady production placements from Graymatter sprinkled throughout a large swath of his discography, and the MA producer also collaborated with Domo Genesis on “What You Don’t Get?” Now, the collective is ready to come back together to exert their musical identity as a group, cementing Mutant Academy among the storied groups in hip-hop’s history.

Check out “Liberation” above and see more album details below, and stay tuned for more Mutant Academy coming soon.

46. Bootsy Collins ft. FANTAAZMA, Giz & Bedroom Bootsy – Pure Perfection

Source:Bootsy Collins

Today, funk legend Bootsy Collins shares the new single “Pure Perfection” from his forthcoming album Album of the Year #1 Funkateer, due out October 25 (the day before the funk legend’s 73rd birthday) via Bootzilla Records/Equity Records. In celebration of the new record, today all Starbucks locations will be playing the “Bootsy Funky Summer Playlist,” which was specially curated by the icon himself, featuring his new music and classic hits.

“Pure Perfection” oozes like a hot summer day.  If there was ever a spiritual and sonic follow-up to the funk maestro’s famed “I’d Rather Be With You,” this might just be it. Alongside German rapper FANTAAZMA and rapper Giz, the track formally features “Bedroom Bootsy,” one of Collins’ legendary alter-egos, like Casper the Friendly Ghost and Bootzilla.

“Bootsy Collins is synonymous with funk,” states FLOOD Magazine who premiered the single this morning. “As such, color us unsurprised that his new track, “Pure Perfection,” is an ass-shaker of the highest order, a raunchy, slow and seductive jam melting in half-time thanks to Bootsy’s thizz face–inducing bassline and—pardon me—horned-up lyrics.” Read the exclusive here.

“Pure perfection is the light that you bring into this world, that light that stays lit, producing every boy & every girl,” shares Bootsy Collins“Pure Perfection is the sunset, & the sound of the sea, it’s all the watchmen that look after you & me. Pure Perfection is this day as it turns into the night. Teaching all citizens of the universe, to Funk not Fight.”

Bedroom Bootsy’s vocals whisper and growl, singing “I’m just an innocent bystander just standing by … waiting to wash your windows and  get a piece of that cherry pie.” Seductive, irreverent, and above all, pure funk, “Pure Perfection” is another facet that shows what the funk legend has been cooking up in his home studio in Cincinnati, keeping the funk alive and refreshing his own creative spark with collaborators.

On his 23rd studio album Album of the Year #1 Funkateer  the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer  finds himself in a new position – that of coach and above all, producer. Crafting a sound that sonically runs the Bootsy gamut from bedroom Bootsy, to space-alien adventures to unexpected rock, Collins has drawn together a network of collaborators from Snoop Dogg, Dave Stewart, Wiz Khalifa, October London, Fantaazma and many more who light the fire in him and helped him make the album of the year.

“When I start on a project now, it’s about getting the energy from people around me,” says funk maestro Bootsy Collins. “Then I proceed to gather transmissions from the universe to know what to talk about. It’s important to me to see who the universe brings to me, and I’ve been really blessed that every time I want to do a new record, I get these incredible musicians around me, right on time. That’s what this album helps me do—Transmitting & receiving with different musicians and artists that have the same desire I had when I was their age.”

This open-minded attitude has helped Collins reach new generations for more than five decades.

From his early work bringing a youthful vigor and refreshing James Brown’s backing band as a founding member of the J.B.’s and learning the Power of the One to his seminal work with George Clinton and the Parliament-Funkadelic universe, playing on most of their landmark albums over the next decade and co-writing such classics as “Up for the Down Stroke,” “Tear the Roof Off the Sucker (Give Up the Funk),” and the chart-topping “Flash Light.”  He also led the side project Bootsy’s Rubber Band, recording multiple gold-certified albums and the Number One R&B hit “Bootzilla,” and began contributing to recordings by artists including Keith Richards, Iggy Pop, and Herbie Hancock. When Rolling Stone put together their list of the Greatest Bassists of All Time, Bootsy was ranked in the top five.

He collaborated with dance superstars Deee-Lite on their 1990 smash “Groove Is In the Heart,” provided the lead vocal on Fatboy Slim’s Grammy-winning 2000 hit “Weapon of Choice,” and acted as the narrator on Silk Sonic’s 2021 platinum album An Evening with Silk Sonic (he even gave Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak the name for their project).

The seventeen tracks on Album of the Year cover all the bases, from the silly Bootsy (on “Chicken & Fries”) to the sexy Bootsy (“Pure Perfection,” which uses a delivery that Bruno Mars calls “Bedroom Bootsy voice”) to the social commentary of “2Nite we Rise.”

The social commentary is true to Bootsy’s heart – he has spent the past year bringing his mission Funk Not Fight to SXSW, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Compton and his hometown in Cincinnati, with more cities to be announced. The Funk Not Fight project is a growing initiative that encourages peace, creativity, and anti-violence by creating community hubs that provide mental health resources and music studios, among other activations, still being announced.

The album is both a testament to Marea Stamper’s (aka The Blessed Madonna) decisive and far-reaching influence, and a homage to her roots in underground electronic music. Drawing on a rich groundswell of collaborators —from  pop megastars in Kylie Minogue to long-established names at the beating heart of the US underground like Jamie Principle and A-Trak, breakout acts like Joy Anonymous and vocalists tracing classic soul (Danielle Ponder), new-age gospel (Jacob Lusk) and UK RnB (Joy Crookes) — Godspeed explores the myriad of sounds, eras and touch points that make The Blessed Madonna the artist she is today.

There are also deeply personal themes at its core. Balancing the twin flames of rave and religion — both are of crucial importance to The Blessed Madonna — Godspeed explores the full spectrum of human emotions, tackling everything from joy to grief with equal gusto.

“Godspeed: the word marks the beginning of a journey and sometimes the end of one,” The Blessed Madonna explains. “After nearly a year in lockdown, when I signed the paperwork and knew that I was going to be allowed to make this album, I called my dad in Kentucky to tell him the good news. He could not contain his pride and in a way his relief. I was going to be ok. He says it better than I do at the beginning of the record. I lost him suddenly just weeks before the first session, but his voice will live in Godspeed forever and make a million more journeys to everyone who hears it.” Read more about the meaning of Godspeed HERE.

With creative direction overseen by acclaimed DIY bootlegger artists Sports Banger, the album also makes a stirring visual statement. A black & white photograph of The Blessed Madonna’s husband, Vadim, wearing a custom-made ‘Godspeed’ belt buckle is depicted on the reverse of the vinyl sleeve, for example, while the vinyl’s gatefold features a collection of repurposed club relics lifted from across The Blessed Madonna’s 30+ year DJ career.

50. Pecos & The Rooftops – One Drunk Summer

Source:Pecos & The Rooftops

Today, Platinum-certified rising Texas-based country rock band Pecos & The Rooftops return with a brand new single entitled “One Drunk Summer.” Listen HERE via Warner Records. It notably marks the group’s first release since their acclaimed self-titled debut album, Pecos & The Rooftops, in 2023.

The track conjures up all kinds of nostalgia with its airy instrumentation, vivid storytelling, and hazy production. Loose clean guitar sets the tempo, wrapping around the beat as memories naturally come into focus. Buzzing distortion uplifts the bridge, and a recollection crystallizes on the chorus, “The first time we sang ‘Sweet Caroline’, it felt like you were mine.” It culminates on one last heartbroken crescendo, highlighting the dynamics at the heart of the band’s inimitable signature sound.

Pecos Hurley had this to say about the new track. “The inspiration behind ‘One Drunk Summer’ really came from part of its name – Summer. Me and my friends Riley Thomas, Eddie Eberle, Conor Matthews, and Andrew Baylis all sat down in the studio with the intentions of writing a song that felt like something you’d want to listen to with the windows down on a summer drive. ‘One Drunk Summer’ was the outcome.”

Right now, Pecos & The Rooftops are in the midst of a string of summer headline dates and festival appearances. Check out the full confirmed itinerary below.

Last year, Pecos & The Rooftops accelerated their rise with the release of their debut LP. It houses signature staples such as 5AM,” Hurt No More,” Last Thing I Remember,” Bricks,” and She Says.” Beyond generating nearly a quarter-of-a-billion streams, it has earned critical applause. Music Connection chronicled their rise and highlighted how “the country rockers continued kicking up dust through touring and recording.” Holler. praised, “It’s a close-knit sense of camaraderie that shines through in their live shows.”

Pecos & The Rooftops have been perfecting a signature heavy blend of lowdown country and classic rock since their inception with the band living in a big five-bedroom house in Lubbock, Texas. Formed in 2019 by a tight-knit squad of college friends, the band outfits their soulful Americana with muscular guitar grit, yet remains tuneful and melodic. They’ve carved out a singular niche for themselves in the rich songwriting tradition of their home state, as evidenced by their debut Warner Records single “5AM,” which has amassed over 26.4 million global streams to date. Anchored by the heart-baring songwriting and booming voice of former Marine Pecos Hurley, the band is rounded out by top-tier players and songwriters Brandon Jones (rhythm guitar), Jessie Santos (lead guitar), Kalen Davis (bass), Garrett Peltier (drums) and Hunter Cassell (guitars & keys).

Pecos & The Rooftops chose their name—a nod to the part of the house they’d hang out, drink beers, and jam on—just before self-releasing their debut single, 2019’s slow-burning This Damn Song.” It was a runaway success, earning an RIAA Platinum certification and going on to rack up more than 349 million streams globally. Deciding to ride the wave for as long as they could, the band hit the road immediately after and haven’t stopped since, touring relentlessly on the club and festival circuit opening for the likes of rising country star Koe Wetzel. They released the Red Eye EP in 2020, expanding on their already solid sound with extra emphasis on guitar structures and complex yet melodic arrangements, hinting at jazz and psychedelic influences.

Pecos & The Rooftops have earned a devoted fan base who’ve come out to support them both online and, on the road, with the band garnering over 514 million global streams to date and more than 128 million video views. They’re currently on a nationwide headline tour with more dates to be announced soon.  “At the end of the day, I just want to help people with our music, honestly,” Hurley says. Pecos & the Rooftops are set to do that and much, much more.
