Netflix blessed fans with the official trailer for their upcoming drama film The Piano Lesson this week (August 21st). Click inside to check it out!
In the movie, a battle is brewing in the Charles Household. At the center stands a prized heirloom piano tearing two siblings apart. On one side, a brother plans to build the family fortune by selling it. On the other, a sister will go to any lengths to hold onto the sole vestige of the family’s heritage. Their uncle tries to mediate, but even he can’t hold back the ghosts of the past.
Adapted from August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning masterwork, The Piano Lesson explores the intergenerational dynamics of identity, resilience and transcendence – revealing startling truths about how we perceive the past and who gets to define our legacy.
The film boasts an all-star cast that includes Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction, Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight), John David Washington (Ballers, BlacKKKlansman, Tenet), Ray Fisher (Justice League), Michael Potts (The Wire, True Detective), Erykah Badu, Skylar Aleece Smith, Jerrika Hinton (Grey’s Anatomy, Servant, Hunters), Gail Bean (Insecure, Snowfall, P-Valley), Danielle Deadwyler (The Have and the Have Nots, The Harder They Fall) and Corey Hawkins (The Walking Dead, Straight Outta Compton, The Color Purple).
Malcolm Washington makes his feature directorial debut in a film co-written by him and Virgil Williams based on the play written by August Wilson. The Piano Lesson is literally a family affair as Denzel Washington serves as producer alongside Todd Black. Katia Washington (Denzel’s daughter and Malcolm & John David’s sister), Jennifer Roth and Constanza Romero Wilson take on executive producer responsibilities.
The Piano Lesson will be released in select theaters on November 8th and on Netflix November 22nd. Before those dates, the film will be featured as a special presentation at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10th.
