In the words of DMX — it’s dark and hell is hot…
Netflix just dropped the trailer for their upcoming Lee Daniels horror movie The Deliverance and we’re preparing ourselves to watch this one with our hands over our eyes.
The film stars Andra Day as Ebony Jackson, a struggling single mother fighting her personal demons, who moves her family into a new home for a fresh start.
But when strange occurrences inside the home raise the suspicions of Child Protective Services and threaten to tear the family apart, Ebony soon finds herself locked in a battle for her life and the souls of her children.
Inspired by a true story, THE DELIVERANCE is directed by Academy Award nominee Lee Daniels and stars Andra Day, Glenn Close, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, and Mo’Nique in a genre-defying take on darkness, possession, and finding a higher power. The film also stars Anthony B. Jenkins, Miss Lawrence, Demi Singleton, Tasha Smith, Omar Epps and Caleb McLaughlin,
THE DELIVERANCE arrives in select theaters August 16, 2024 and streams on Netflix August 30, 2024
Let’s have a look at some of the first images to be released from the film.
1. Anthony B. Jenkins As Andre
Source:Netflix
You may recall this image from the brief glimpses of a bathtub scene in the trailer. Anthony B. Jenkins plays Ebony’s youngest son Andre… If you’ve ever seen a horror or possession movie, you already know how vulnerable the babies of the family can be in these situations…
2. Glenn Close As Alberta
Source:Netflix
We’re already predicting that Glenn Close will go platinum on social media once this movie hits the streets. We knew she had a little bit of hood in her after Fatal Attraction, but for this film, Close fully taps into that older white lady around the way who got her taste of chocolate when she was young and never looked back.
3. Caleb McLaughlin As Nate, Andra Day As Ebony

Caleb McLaughlin plays Ebony’s oldest son Nate and Andra Day is Ebony. Of all the actors in this film we think McLaughlin was probably best prepared, due to his experience in Stranger Things.
4. Aunjanue Ellis is Reverend James
Source:Netflix
The trailer opens with Aunjanue Ellis performing the actual deliverance that the film is named for.
5. Mo’Nique as Cynthia Henry
Source:Netflix
Before the dark entities make themselves known, Mo’Nique’s character Cynthia Henry is Ebony’s biggest nemesis. She works for Child Protective Services, and isn’t giving Ebony any room for mistakes that might put the kids in harm’s way.
6. Have Faith

This film shows you how some people who aren’t believers in God can become some of his most faithful followers.
7. What’s In The Basement Though?

If this film doesn’t make you want to make sure you get a thorough home inspection and do research on past owners, we’re not sure what will. As a general rule though we’re not fans of basements or attics — especially not ones with big holes that look like they lead to hell.
8. Motherly Love

There’s nothing like a mother’s love and these first look images are definitely giving that.
