After establishing itself as one of the most refreshing and unpredictable mystery comedies on television, Diarra From Detroit is officially returning for its highly anticipated second season. Paramount+ has confirmed that the series, created by and starring the multi-hyphenate Diarra Kilpatrick, will make its global return on Wednesday, July 29. The premiere will feature the release of the first two episodes, with subsequent episodes rolling out weekly every Wednesday through September 9.

A New Chapter of Mystery and Chaos

For those who missed the debut season, the series follows Diarra Brickland, a divorcing schoolteacher whose quest for a romantic rebound spirals into a complex investigation. After being ghosted by a Tinder date, her refusal to accept the situation leads her into the heart of Detroit’s criminal underworld, dragging her friends and associates into a dangerous web of secrets. The show’s unique blend of sharp comedy, genuine mystery, and authentic Detroit culture earned it critical acclaim, including recognition from Deadline, Rolling Stone, and The Hollywood Reporter, alongside multiple NAACP Image Award and Film Independent Spirit Award nominations.

Season 2 promises to escalate the stakes significantly. According to official reports from Paramount+, Diarra is attempting to enjoy a “hot girl summer,” only to find herself entangled in a triple homicide investigation and a citywide treasure hunt. What begins as a simple furniture recovery mission quickly devolves into a deep dive into the city’s criminal underbelly, involving secret societies, urban legends, and even a stint in a Tubi movie.

Returning Cast and Expanded Guest List

The core ensemble remains intact, with Diarra Kilpatrick, Dominique Perry, Bryan Terrell Clark, and Jon Chaffin reprising their roles. They are joined by returning cast members Shannon Wallace, Phylicia Rashad, and Harry Lennix. The second season also boasts an impressive roster of guest stars, including Method Man, Morris Chestnut, Glynn Turman, Bokeem Woodbine, Amber Riley, Lil Rel Howery, Lovie Simone, Shoniqua Shandai, Nicco Annan, Skilla Baby, Icewear Vezzo, Chris “CP” Powell, and Jude Demorest.

Behind the camera, the production remains under the guidance of Kilpatrick, who continues her work as creator, writer, and executive producer. She is joined by executive producers Kenya Barris and Miles Orion Feldsott, with Feldsott serving as showrunner. The series is produced by BET Studios and Khalabo Ink Society.
