Director Barry Jenkins, along with songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda and an all-star cast, including Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Theo Somolu, Braelyn Rankins, and Anika Noni Rose, were on hand to hype up the crowd during the studio showcase. The night hit its peak when Lebo M., the musical genius behind the film, brought down the house with a live performance of the iconic “Nants’ Ingonyama” and a fresh track titled “Ngomso,” all backed by a powerful choir.
Mufasa: The Lion King takes us back to the Pride Lands, but this time, we’re digging deep into the backstory of the legendary king. The film flips the script by having Rafiki tell the tale of Mufasa’s rise to power to young Kiara, Simba and Nala’s daughter, with some hilarious commentary from Timon and Pumbaa. Through flashbacks, we meet Mufasa as an orphaned cub, trying to find his way until he crosses paths with Taka, a lion with royal roots. This chance encounter kicks off a wild journey filled with challenges, danger, and the kind of loyalty that can only be forged in the heat of battle. Expect the unexpected as this crew of misfits fights to find their place in the world.

The film’s cast is stacked, with big names like John Kani, Tiffany Boone, Kagiso Lediga, Preston Nyman, Mads Mikkelsen, Thandiwe Newton, Lennie James, Keith David, Donald Glover, Blue Ivy Carter, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, and more. With a mix of live-action techniques and cutting-edge CGI, Mufasa: The Lion King promises to be a visual feast. Produced by Adele Romanski & Mark Ceryak, and executive produced by Peter Tobyansen, this film is shaping up to be a must-see.
