Today (May 1st), Magnolia Pictures released the official trailer for their new bold, no-holds-barred action-thriller from debut filmmaker R.T. Thorne starring acclaimed actress Danielle Deadwyler. Continue reading to check out out first look at 40 ACRES.
In the film, after a plague eradicates all animal life, famine spreads across the globe leaving society at war and in ruins, but the Freemans are surviving — even thriving — on their ancestral farm so long as they dispatch the occasional raiding party. But what good is surviving the end of the world if it means snuffing out your own humanity? Former soldier Hailey made that choice years ago, believing that isolation was the only way to protect her family. She and her partner Galen fled the collapse along with their children, fenced them off from the world and trained them to fight (and, yes, kill). But now Hailey’s eldest Emanuel is a young man, and when he meets a young woman in the forest beyond the fence, his need for human contact could place the whole family in jeopardy.
Alongside Deadwyler (The Harder They Fall, Till, The Piano Lesson), Kataem O’Connor (Heartland, Murdoch Mysteries), Michael Greyeyes (Fear the Walking Dead, True detective, I Know This Much Is True), Jaeda LeBlanc (Big Top Academy, Super Mighty Makers), Leenah Robinson (Monkey Beach, 1923, Don’t Even) and Milcania Diaz-Rojas.
In addition to making his feature film directorial debut, R.T. Thorne also co-wrote with Glenn Taylor and Lora Campbell. Jennifer Holness served as producer on the project. After making it’s world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival last September and being named to TIFF’s annual Canada’s Top Ten list for 2024, 40 ACRES will hit theaters soon. Stay tuned for further details. In the meantime, check out the film’s exhilarating official trailer below!
