It’s October and we’re all about spooky season so it’s the perfect time for Paramount to drop a scary sequel ala Smile 2.

The film stars Naomi Scott as global pop star Skye Riley, who witnesses a traumatic incident that threatens to turn her life upside down just as she is about to embark on a new world tour. Overwhelmed by the escalating horrors and pressures of fame, she must confront her dark past before her life spirals out of control.

After the release of TRAP earlier this year, the idea of another thriller with a pop star at the center of the story wasn’t the most appealing but there’s quite a few elements from the film that ultimately will win audiences over.

Without any spoilers, there are a few pieces of Skye’s pop star life that make this film remarkable. The real life horrors of pop stardom have been well documented, and for that reason, most of Skye’s demons aren’t exactly unique. The evil at work in Smile 2 preys on the mind and Skye’s subconscious is ripe for ruffling. Because the star of the show is struggling to differentiate what’s real and what isn’t, audiences should be prepared to question everything they see. Smile 2 also goes a lot harder with disgusting details so if you like guts and gore, you’re in for some fun. The film also has a great sense of humor so expect some laughs as well.
That said, there will be no way to predict some of the twists, turns and jump scares coming your way. That said, isn’t that why we watch scary movies in the first place?
