Fresh off his win on Love Island USA Season 6, Kordell Beckham is officially stepping into the scripted TV world with a breakout role in Keke Palmer’s digital network, KeyTV’s original series, Southern Fried Rice.
Beckham has gained traction as both a model and rising actor. Now, he’s off to his next venture, portraying Steve—a carefree, artsy intellectual and music major who marches to the beat of his own drum, literally. According to Deadline, his character is described as spontaneous and sociable, Steve adds both heart and flavor to the series, which centers around themes of identity, community, and cultural nuance.
Created by and starring Page Yang, Southern Fried Rice follows Koko, a Gen-Z Asian American girl who was raised by Southern Black parents from birth. The series picks up as Koko navigates the layered experience of being accepted into a Historically Black College and University (HBCU), while also grappling with questions of heritage, belonging, and what it means to be authentically yourself.
Beckham’s casting marks a major career pivot following his reality TV fame. Since his Love Island victory, he’s been focused on launching a modeling and acting career, debuting on the runway at New York Fashion Week in designs by KDaniels and Romeo Hunte. Now, his latest move shows that he’s serious about building a name in Hollywood—with Southern Fried Rice serving as a bold first step.
The series is executive produced by Keke Palmer, Sharon Palmer, and Lenoria Addison for KeyTV, Palmer’s platform dedicated to spotlighting rising creators and diverse voices. The production team includes award-winning filmmakers Nakia Stephens and Shanay J. Campbell, with Shayla Racquel directing in partnership with Damn Write Originals and KeyTV.
As for Beckham, who is represented by VLF Media & Promotions, the opportunity is more than just a role—it’s a launchpad. With his charisma, fresh energy, and a character that seems tailor-made for his vibe, Southern Fried Rice could be the start of a promising career in front of the camera.
For fans of Love Island USA, this next chapter proves that Kordell Beckham is not just a reality TV star—he’s ready to rewrite the script.
Congrats!
