The 2026 film Michael chronicled Michael Jackson‘s rise from child star to global music icon. While the studio has not formally announced every detail, executives have indicated that production could begin sooner rather than later. According to a report from Deadline, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chairman Adam Fogelson revealed during an earnings call that the studio is targeting production for late 2026 or early 2027. If the schedule holds, the sequel could arrive in theaters by the end of 2027 or the first half of 2028.

Building on Massive Success

The announcement follows the film’s status as one of the biggest theatrical hits of the year, having surpassed $1 billion at the global box office. The Antoine Fuqua-directed project stars Jaafar Jackson, the late singer’s nephew, and captures the journey from his early days with the Jackson 5 to the height of his superstardom.

What to Expect in the Next Chapter

While the sequel has not yet received an official title, Lionsgate has hinted that there is significant story left to tell. The first film famously concluded with the words, “His Story Continues,” signaling that audiences had not reached the final chapter.
