UPROXX Studios’ Sound Check continues to deliver heat. After DaBaby, G-Eazy and Rico Nasty graced the first three episodes of the show, episode 4 had to be legendary. It’s only right that Grammy-nominated rapper Big Sean joined host Jeremy Hecht for the fourth episode of the weekly interview series revealing your favorite artist’s musical taste. Each high-stakes, 12-round episode features a carefully curated playlist of impossible choices, unearthing some never-before-heard stories and creative influences.

Michael Jackson’s music was and still is universal. Growing up in Detroit, the home of Motown Records, that music probably holds an even more special place in the heart of the 37 year-old artist. In one segment, Big Sean croons along to two MJ classics – “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’” and “Rock With You” – while making an impossible decision: “I’m going ‘Rock With You’ bro. You gotta f-ck with Mike, man. He was just so instrumental to every living room. I’m pretty sure growing up, everyone had a Michael Jackson moment, moonwalking…That ‘Rock With You’ specifically is just special. ”

Later, Big Sean is forced to choose between songs from two of his favorite rappers of all time that best represent his music taste—“A Milli” by Lil Wayne and “Lose Yourself” by Eminem. On picking Eminem: “It’s crazy Eminem and Lil Wayne, the impact they both have had on me…how both of them have gone out of their way for me. The ‘Detroit vs Everybody, ‘No Favors’ with me and him, the Detroit Cypher on Detroit 2, and his latest album…This is a tough one man. I really wanna choose both but if I have to choose now, Ima go with Em.”

In the final round, Hecht flipped the script and turned the tables on himself by attempting to guess the track Sean says represents his entire life. Given two options—“Superstition” by Stevie Wonder and “Lovely Day” by Bill Withers—Hecht correctly guesses “Lovely Day”. When asked about his song selection, Sean answers “The thing about Bill Withers is he started singing in his 30s too so, to anyone who, you know, is scared of starting something new just know that Bill Withers was, I think he was in the military or something like that, and he decided to be an artist like in his 30s. And he’s one of the greatest of all time.”
