The momentum for UPROXX Studios’ Sound Check keeps building! The weekly interview series revealing your favorite artist’s musical taste consists of high stakes 12-round episodes that feature a carefully curated playlist of impossible choices, unearthing some never-before-heard stories and creative influences. With previous guests including Big Sean, Rico Nasty and DaBaby, the series is showing no signs of slowing down. On episode five, host Jeremy Hecht had the pleasure of being joined by hip hop royalty, The LOX.

Fans of The LOX know how great they are at storytelling. It was only right that in the first round, the group had to choose between two all-time storytelling songs from New York rap GOATS – “Rewind” by Nas and “I Got A Story To Tell” by Notorious B.I.G. Sheek Louch on choosing the latter: “B.I.G. but Nas’ creativeness on that song and going backwords…that’s one of the best songs ever…but ‘Story To Tell’ was just incredible for us, like in our hood and everywhere. So I’m saying B.I.G.”

It’s super important for OGs to stay tapped in with the hip hop stars. The LOX obviously have their ears to the streets. They were forced to pick between Doechii’s “Denial Is A River” and GELO’s “Tweaker.” Sheek was the lone wolf who went with the latter. As he agreed with Jadakiss, Styles P stated, “I’m taking Doechii too…She giving bars like from ‘99 to 2000 tho. She’s barrin’ it down like someone who was around in the ‘90s and 2000s.”

If you’ve been a group for as long as The LOX has, you naturally start to think in sync (Despite their previous answer). This was on full display in the final round. Hecht flipped the script and turned the tables on himself by attempting to guess the track the trio says is their life anthem based on what he now knows about their music taste. Given two options—“It’s Great To Be Here” by The Jackson 5 and “Calm Down” by M.O.P.—Hecht correctly guesses “Calm Down.” Jadakiss confirmed that Hecht was correct by shouting out his fellow New York legends, “Billy and Fame, we love you!”
