Born in London to Nigerian parents, Erivo’s journey to stardom began on the stage. She made waves in the theater world with her breakout role as Celie in the Broadway revival of The Color Purple. Her emotionally charged performance earned her a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical, along with a Grammy and an Emmy, making her just a step away from achieving EGOT status.

Dominating Hollywood

Erivo seamlessly transitioned into Hollywood, showcasing her versatility in roles that demand both emotional depth and range. Her portrayal of Harriet Tubman in Harriet (2019) earned her Academy Award nominations for both Best Actress and Best Original Song, further proving her ability to bring powerful Black historical figures to life on screen.

In addition to her biopic work, she has impressed audiences with performances in WidowsGenius: Aretha, and the beloved Wicked film, where she plays Elphaba opposite Ariana Grande’s Glinda.
