West Coast rapper Wildcard continues his Zodiac-theme singles series with a menacing banger, “Taurus Jacket,” featuring impressive production from frequent collaborator C-Lance.
The track is inspired by both the Taurus sign as well as the emcee’s own experiences as a kid growing up in the ‘90s. “I was told not to wear certain sports teams because it could incite trouble,” he remembers. “Now that I’ve come of age, I can rock what I want.” And for Wildcard, there’s no better way to convey that than with satirical lyrics about buying a “Bulls jacket and a gun” when he got his first rap check.
The track is also brimming with feral punchlines from the rapper, who uses C-Lance’s raucous production to spit some slick bars aimed at everyone from his competition to old flames. And given the tongue-in-cheek feel of “Taurus Jacket,” you can tell that Wildcard is having a lot of fun embodying a harsher tone with his raps.
“Taurus Jacket” is available now through all major digital retailers and streaming platforms. Stay tuned for Wildcard’s full length LP, The Zodiac Project, produced entirely by C-Lance and due out later this year via Quality Music!
