Chino XL’s long-awaited third posthumous album, Ascen7ion, has finally arrived. Following The Map of Bones, this 7-track project showcases the lyrical brilliance and raw emotion that fans have come to expect from the legendary MC.

The album kicks off with “SHOTS THROUGH YA VEHICLE,” opening with a bold statement—”fuck everyone, respectfully”—and immediately launching into rapid-fire rhymes. Chino comes out swinging, taking lyrical shots and asserting his dominance with intricate wordplay.

“ALWAYS THERE…” dives into deeper emotional territory, addressing hidden pain, mental health struggles, and the personal tension between being a loving father and battling inner demons. The track stands out for its heartfelt introspection, transforming vulnerability into poetic strength.

“WE JUST SPIT BARS,” featuring Canibus, is a lyrical slugfest. Canibus sets the tone by declaring who the best is—himself and Chino—and both artists proceed to destroy the beat with ruthless verses, showing off their legendary lyrical abilities.

“STREET CRUCIFIXION” delivers raw, unfiltered energy reminiscent of classic street mixtape freestyles. The gritty vibe reinforces Chino’s roots in underground hip-hop.

“LINDA,” featuring Sincerely Collins, and “DO YOU HEAR?” featuring MC Lyte and J Lee, bring layered wordplay and rich symbolism. These tracks balance emotional depth with intellectual sharpness, further highlighting Chino’s versatility.

The album concludes with “THE TEMPEST,” where Chino unleashes a fast-paced lyrical storm, explaining why he is the tempest. He cleverly contrasts his personal meaning of the title with Shakespeare’s original play, offering a powerful closing statement on identity, chaos, and mastery.

Ascen7ion features production from Anno Domini, Johnny Slash, Bodybag Ben, and Dub Sonata, with executive production by Matthew “M80” Markoff.

This project is available exclusively in physical format and comes as part of a 3-disc pack that includes his previously released posthumous albums, Darkness and Other Colors and Map of Bones. It is sold exclusively through 1332 Records.

It’s not over just yet—more Chino XL is on the way.
