Kapi Gantsu is bringing the live experience home. The Johannesburg-based musician released Kapi Gantsu Live at Victory Theatre, a five-track EP recorded in front of a live audience, on 27 February 2026.
The EP does exactly what it says — it’s a live capture of Gantsu performing at the Victory Theatre, backed by Tavern Solomon on drums, Mandilakhe Chaga on guitar, Mthokozisi Mabuza on keyboards, and Edgar Muzah on bass. Cornelius Poisat handled recording, mixing, and mastering.
The result is something that feels unfiltered — jazz, afro-soul, and Afro-pop the way it sounds in the room, not the studio.
Gantsu’s sound goes back a long way. He grew up in Tyholora, George, surrounded by Zion hymns, traditional healer music, and Sunday jazz sessions — an upbringing that connects directly to the South African greats he counts as influences: Hugh Masekela, Simphiwe Dana, Gibson Kente, Don Laka. He came up through the George Spiritual Gospel Group, Boyz of Soul, and Agape before founding PIKA Records, where he continues producing work that honors that heritage.
When asked how he’d describe his sound right now, Gantsu puts it simply:
“My sound is basically life stories shaped in beautiful African melodies — African elements that define my originality and the future that is bright ahead.”
Kapi Gantsu Live at Victory Theatre is out now.
