Birmingham-based emcee and producer Sonnyjim has maintained a relentless pace in 2026, delivering his second extended play of the year, Rob Ford. This latest project marks his 19th overall release, further cementing his status as a prolific force in the UK underground hip-hop scene. Since his 2011 debut, The Psychonaut, Sonnyjim has cultivated a discography defined by high-profile collaborations with producers such as Giallo Point, Buckwild, Illinformed, Leaf Dog, and Camoflauge Monk.

Following his recent Chinatown Chicken Tour, which was produced by Sumgii, Sonnyjim has reunited with Lee Scott for this new outing. The two previously collaborated on the acclaimed Ortolan & Armagnac, and Rob Ford serves as a testament to their enduring creative chemistry.

The EP opens with “Tuscan Pleather,” a track that finds Sonnyjim reflecting on his status in the industry. The project also features the single “Krayzie, Layzie, Flesh, Wish-N-Bizzy,” which pays homage to the legendary Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, and “Lump Sum,” featuring appearances from Jehst and King Grubb. The latter track notably includes a series of references to professional wrestling icon Stone Cold Steve Austin, while “BOGOF” highlights Sonnyjim’s lyrical dexterity.

While his previous release, As Serious as Your Life 2, felt more like a single with a b-side, Rob Ford offers a more substantial listening experience. Although it may not immediately reach the same heights as Chinatown Chicken or Ortolan & Armagnac, the project successfully captures the distinct, gritty aesthetic that fans of the duo have come to expect.
