50 Cent, NLE Choppa and Rileyy Lanez form like Voltron on their new song, ‘Part of the Game’. While the song originally dropped on December 30, Fif decided to enter the New Year guns blazing with the release of its visual. I think we can all agree it was the collaboration we didn’t know we needed. The song starts with a classic ‘golden era’ drum loop as Riley begins to carry the background with warm, soft, yet powerful vocals. A familiar baseline follows suite which many will recognize as a sample of the 1982 hit song ‘Risin’ to the Top’ by Keni Burke. The track is the official theme song of 50 Cent’s upcoming show ‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’, which is a prequel to his groundbreaking show, ‘Power on Starz’.
Set in the early 90s, it details the origin story of the character Kanan (played by 50 Cent) from the original ‘Power’ series. In familiar fashion, the video takes you on a nostalgia trip through the golden era, fully-equipped with gold chains, BMW’s, flattops etc while showing clips from the upcoming series. Personally, I’m always excited to see some fresh acting faces, but to see Joey Bada$$ and Omar Epps among the cast has me geeked. As the video progresses, NLE Choppa slams the alley oop with a verse that can only be described as a melodic, semi-automatic. I leave you with an amazing visual, a fantastic banger, and endless anticipation for the next chapter of ‘Power’.
