Influenced by India Arie and Lauryn Hill, Midi Kwakwa—stylised as MiDi KwaKwa—sits beachside with a flower in her hair to sing softly in English and a Ghanaian dialect about the beginning phase of a relationship, not having the words to say and believing that everything will work out somehow, paired with hums over the rhythmic beat. As the waves come crashing and bystanders enjoy themselves, we are peppered with close-up shots of the artist and her friend’s melanated skin in the sunlight and the darkness.
