Meet Trayc Selasi, the gorgeous global Ghanaian artist. In this article, we talk fashion, performing on major stages like the Global Music Awards Africa, and making her new fire video ‘Somebody’. It would be best if you always took our word for it; when it comes to new talent, you should watch, so go check it out to see for yourself.
GRUNGECAKE: I really love your styles and fun looks. What inspires your wardrobe?
I have to give it to one of my stylists from London, Jo London, who has styled a lot of my recent looks. I’m really grateful for her. For my day-to-day style, it is just what I feel and how I feel on the day. Someone like Jo London, with the help of my team, Coelle LDN, helps put a lot of personality in the looks for shoots, video shoots etc; understanding what I like and what I would [do]. What I would say is that, my inspirations really depends on my mood, on the day, and what the weather is saying. I also look at other creatives and pick ideas from them.
GRUNGECAKE: I really like your new video for ‘Somebody’. Can you tell us where you made the video and how it was making it?
Thank you so much. Really glad you’re enjoying the video. I made this video in Ghana which was produced by the amazing, Mutombo the Poet. I was really excited for it and happy with the concept when he brought the idea to me as it was something I believe a lot people in my generation will relate to and understand especially when you see the tin phones with the strings. I felt amazing shooting back home as I get to show Ghana in it’s purest beauty. Massive thank you to everyone in the team that were apart of this.
GRUNGECAKE: I know you killed the Global Music Awards Africa stage. How was it performing at the GMAA?
Yes, my performance at the GMAA was absolutely amazing. I was really excited and happy they even considered me to perform on top of being nominated for an award. Although I didn’t win, I was grateful I was recognised for my work and talents. It felt great performing on stage again after a while with a live band as well. It was a great experience and wish I could’ve stayed on that stage longer and given more.
GRUNGECAKE: I saw that you just had a virtual concert. With the world opening back up, do you think you will still do virtual performances or would you prefer live shows?
I will always prefer live shows because I feel more connected with my army of supporters as they watch me. I love to watch them perform with me singing along to my songs out loud and so much more. However, the virtual concert was an amazing experience. I will definitely do it again, but with much more so everyone can get an amazing experience. With my next virtual concerts, I want to be able to create different rooms, where everyone can enjoy other aspects of the concerts, from the bar to merchandise, games and more. Hoping that will work out next time, but I can’t wait to start performing on stage again. It’s definitely missed.
GRUNGECAKE: Is there anything you want to tell your fans?
The main thing is: Thank you, thank you, thank you all so much for your amazing support and love so far. My fans are the real MVPs. The love keeps me going in this industry because Lord knows, it can get crazy sometimes. I am really grateful for everyone showing me love right now. Last thing I would like to tell my fans is, I can’t wait for you all to hear what I have been cooking up in the studio. Ride with me on this journey, because it’s been one of hell of a journey, and it’s about to get even more crazy. Stay tuned and connected. Keep supporting. I LOVE YOU ALL!
GRUNGECAKE: What are you looking forward to for the rest of the year?
Creating more amazing music and releasing something new. I am really looking forward to sharing more of Trayc Selasi for the world to see. I have also ventured into the shea butter business, selling organic shea butter straight from Ghana, so I am really hoping to have that pick up nicely and make airwaves. Anyone that wants to check out the website and order your own organic shea butter. Apart from that, I’m looking forward to going back to Ghana soon to create some more magic.
