Combine a movie about a group of queer best friends heading off to Fire Island Pines for their annual week of love and laughter with a MUNA cover of Britney Spears’ iconic track Sometimes and you’ve pretty much got an LGBTQ+ fever dream happening. If you haven’t already I highly recommend watching Fire Island, not only for the visual storytelling on offer but also for the outstanding soundtrack that accompanies it. There’s some truly wonderful songs that perfectly fit the theme of the movie, shoutout to the music advisor on set for this one, but the standout single is what lead me to watch it in the first place and damn it’s a good one.

It’s hard not to feel all warm and fuzzy inside as the lovelorn vocals of MUNA grace our ears with their presence, effortlessly gliding over the effervescent production that makes you want to close your eyes and imagine yourself in a bliss-induced paradise. They keep the nostalgic energy of what made the original such a sensation for the time and add to it, making this completely their own but still familiar to all those who adore Britney. MUNA, perfect for just about any LGBTQ+ movie soundtrack (Heartstopper Season 2 needs them there).
