Roc A Fella is going after one of its founders, Damon Dash, claiming he is trying to auction off JAY Z’s debut album ‘Reasonable Doubt’ released in 1996 as an NFT (non-fungible token).

Roc A Fella is suing Damon Dash for trying to mint JAY Z’s ‘Reasonable Doubt’ as an NFT and sell it off to the highest bidder. According to the record company, the album belongs to the company and Damon isn’t in the position to sell.

According to the docs filed by attorney Alex Spiro, Damon has previously tried to sell the album as an NFT at a now canceled auction, but the company still believes will try to find another platform to sell it off. Spiro alleges:

Dash had planned to sell at a SuperFarm Foundation online auction on Jun. 23… the copyright to JAY-Z’s album Reasonable Doubt, recognized as one of the greatest recordings in history. That auction was cancelled and Dash is frantically scouting for another venue to make the sale… The sale of this irreplaceable asset must be stopped before it is too late, and Dash must be held accountable for his theft.

Reports from TMZ claim that the document also says: “frantically scouting for another venue to make the sale” in order to pull in big bucks from the current hype over NFTs. Roc A Fella was co-founded by JAY Z, Damon Dash, and Kareem ‘Biggs’ Burke in 1995. Music acts like Kanye West, Beanie Sigel, Jadakiss, Christion, Currensy, DJ Clue, Memphis Bleek, Amil, State Property, Cam’Ron, Freeway, the Diplomats, Juelz Santana, Young Gunz, Teairra Mari, Hector Bambino, and N.O.R.E, have previously been on the roster of the music label.
