The PC Music affiliate Roma Radz has already been hyped up as one of the UK’s treasures in the hyper pop scene and is making one hell of a comeback today. She creates a vibrantly colourful world with erratic synths reminiscent of an early 2000’s SEGA game, an electronically warped vocal that’ve been pitched up, baring resemblance to J-Pop girlbands in the process and flourishing glitch induced hooks. Having not released music for a while she wanted to make a comeback that was upbeat, fun and downright a delight to listen to and, unsurprisingly, she’s created a hyper pop summer bop in Token. Hard to believe we only got this gift of a track because she made some music for a university project and then decided she wanted to become a pop star. Bloody marvellous.
Wit hyper pop radically rising in popularity and slowly puncturing the mainstream charts with the likes of Charli XCX and 100 Gecs, it shouldn’t be too long until Roma Radz is on the radio airwaves. Who knows, she might even be able to turn those pop stars into a reality.
