During lockdown I had a call with SPIDER, I got to talk to her about her journey, how she got her name, what was next, and how pumped she was for the future. There was one story she told me though that stayed with me, and it still annoys me to this day. During her early years she went to a music event, chatted to a few people, explained how she was creating alternative music, the usual things you do at these networking events. One person said they didn’t see her making alternative music however, instead saying they expected her to make neo-soul, judging her entire musicality based on what she looked like. This wasn’t a one off thing, it’s something black alternative musicians have often faced because of the negative-stereotype outdated people have in their head. Today, she’s firing back at them and holding nothing back.

AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL is quintessential SPIDER, she doesn’t mince her words and lets you know exactly what she’s feeling. Filled with anger, frustration, and a burning desire to show these people what she’s made of, her voice pierces through the cacophony of explosive guitars and pulsating drums, leaving no room for misinterpretation. This is SPIDER joining the revolution and raising her middle finger high into the sky against those who doubt her. It’s the perfect response to people who attempted to marginalise her, and an anthem for those who’re ready to push back against the oppressors.

I could sing my praises for SPIDER til the cows come home, the reality is that she’s one of the best emerging artists from the UK scene and she proves it with every release. That’s all that needs to be said.
