For those that were lonely on valentine’s day fear not for South London-based indie artist props released his latest single ‘Dream On’ – a song to take your minds and ears from the worst day of the year for singletons to a more upbeat and vibrant place. A solo project that was created at the start of the pandemic from unearthed half-finished Logic Pro files and years-old voice memo ideas, props has since then, with a handful of releases under his belt, found support from none other than Sir Elton John, recently blessing his track live on air with those four magical words – “Well I love it!” He now returns kicking off 2022 with a single that is written and sung through the perspective of “a self-absorbed protagonist who meets someone on an app and decides they’re the one. The feeling is not reciprocated.” And who hasn’t been there before. But don’t worry this is not some ballad where we find props sulking about a loved one over a downtempo piano instrumental. It’s quite the opposite. Armed with electric guitars, a real drum kit (remember those!) and a distorted bassline, the self-produced single is an upbeat, snappy indie-pop bop infused with catchy synth lead lines and distorted bass rhythms. So, for those that found themselves alone this Valentines, you’re welcome.
